Eight ordinary Tibetans go about their lives in the four seasons, with their customs, celebrations, festivals and links with nature; they have to cope with the strains and stresses of the modern world which is changing their society.
A shaman, one of three brothers who share the same wife, carries out rituals of prayer and cure; a novice monk learns to be a Buddhist and struggles against worldly temptations; a rural doctor with modest training and equipment tries to look after thousands of patients; a builder shares a wife with three brothers, but is also building a house for his mistress; and monks perform a thousand-year-old ballet and unfurl a forty-metre silk painting of the Buddha on a hillside. Tibet from the inside, as never before seen.
